Important gilt cast brass, coin silver, and cut glass platform ink well made by Jabez Gorham & Son of Providence, Rhode Island. Stamped J G & Son 109. Jabez Gorham was the founder of the Gorham Silver Company. This mark was used in 1841, when his son John joined the firm, until 1850. The inkwell features a silver full body stag atop the lid. The footed stand features gold plated scrollwork inset with 4 silver repousse panels depicting ducks, partridges, hares, and deer. Inkwell measures 6 and one half inches high by 3 and one half inches in diameter. Stand measures 12 inches square by 2 inches high. Austrian 935 silver compote with pierced rose design c1830 to 1850. This piece of Austrian silver was made by hand. The fine pierce cut silver design depicts roses, vines and leaves. The bottom section was made separately and is held by small hand made silver nuts. This spectacular piece was made by a master silversmith. Hallmarked 13 on base. Weighs 383 grams. There are a few old silver solder repairs on the back, to be expected on a period piece with such open delicate design. Overall 13.5 W x 9.25 D x 3.5 H. The engraved name is Celia. Shipping extra. C Brewer Middletown Coin Silver tongs c1800. C Brewer made some of the finest Connecticut Silver in Middletown from 1778 until 1860. These are early sugar tongs dating from the turn of the 18th to 19th century. The tong end bowls were made separate and attached to the arms. Hallmarked inside C.Brewer. This pair of tongs measures 7 inches long and weights 43 grams. There is a brite cut design and monogram on its upper section. This is a very elegant piece of American Silver. Shipping extra.
