Philip became King of Spain shortly after his marriage to Mary. The needlework shows the royal couple and their retinue at a fountain, attended by a blackamoor dwarf, amidst a variety of flora and fauna, including a monkey, rabbit, snail, peacock, hedgehog, and dogs.
