French artist Jean Pierre Serrier born 1934 died 1989. "Jean Pierre Serrier" was a very important 20th century French painter that had several of his paintings published on the covers of fine art magazines, along with Newsweek and Time. One of his paintings was auctioned at Butterfields, San Francisco, Ca. USA , lot 6182, page 102 of the catalogue, October 29, 1998. Price realized USD $6000.00 . This painting of a woman in front of a window measures 7 and one half inches by 13 inches and is signed J. P. Serrier on the lower right. We have provided a picture of the artist we found at perso.wanadoo.fr/serrier/JPSERRIER/. 1955 graduate of the school of Fine Arts in Paris.He came to the US for the first time in 1961 where he exhibited at thte Kisling Galery on 57th street in New York City. His work is in many major collections and there was a retrospective catalog published in

The painting is framed in a wonderful of the period gold leaf frame. Andre Marchand was born in Paris on November 22 1877 and died April 18 1945. Modern Art painting by artist "Jon Schueler" abstract oil on canvas, entitled "Yellow Sky",This abstract American impressionist landscape was painted by Jon Schueler while he lived in Chester Connecticut in the 1960's. Born 1916, died 1992. The painting measures 54 inches by 59 inches.There has just been a book published about Jon Schueler and his work entitled "The Sound of Sleat" edited by Magda Salvesen and Diane Cusineau published by Picador New York. It mentions Schueler in Mallaig Vaig, Chester CT and his connection with Elise (whos home he stayed at while he painted this painting). Jon Schueler was taught by Clyfford Still and Willem de Kooning. See Who Was Who in American Art page 2941 where there is huge biography on the artist. Jon Schueler was one of the best artists of his day. He exhibited at the major galleries, hung out with the important collectors,dealers in New York City and was a very important part of the Abstract expressionist movement that took place in New York in the 1950 to 1960 period and had many exhibitions at the countries premier galleries of the day. So far we have only been able to find one auction record for the artist, James Thompson Aucioneers and Valuers Kirkby Lonsdale, Lancashire, England lot 178 on 1.21.04, will add to the artists bio as we come across more information. The label on the back reads F. McJannet 5 Cragsland Park Great Urswick Ulverston Studio Tarn Close. The painting measures 16 by 20 inches and the frame measures 20 by 24 and one half inches. "The villages of Great Urswick and Little Urswick, together called Urswick, are located in the Furness peninsula, part of the county of Cumbria in the United Kingdom. They are situated to the south-west of the town of Ulverston. Great Urswick is situated along the north and west sides of Urswick Tarn, a modest body of water (c. 1100 feet by 600), although the largest such natural body in Low Furness. The tarn is fed from the surrounding hills and feeds Gleaston Beck to the south, the water is said to have a red hue due to the iron content of the surrounding land. Little Urswick, the smaller of the two settlements, stands further south on the lower slopes of a limestone outcrop known as Bolton Heads." Taken from Wikepedia
