This modern sculpture entitled "The Sentry" was created by "Brian McCarthy" of New London, CT. Brian is best known for "figural abstract" welded steel sculptures. He was born June 16, 1945 and began art school at age 6. He studied under Thomas Hughes Ingle (show at Whitney Museum in 1956) and was later influenced by Harris Rodvogin. He formalized his art education at Connecticut College in New London from 1969 to 1973. Presently his work is in private collections in South Hampton NY, Connecticut College, German Naval Headquarters in Eichenforde Germany, and several other American and European collections. All works are meant to be displayed outdoors. Three large pieces are on display in the Hollycroft "Sculpture Mile" show in Madison, CT. These shows are put on by Bill Bendig, director and former editor of Art Gallery Magazine.
