| Between 1951 and 1960, Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989), created 101 watercolor drawings to interpret Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Beginning in 1958, these works were reproduced using a wood engraving technique. With this technique, wood engravers carved 3500 blocks for the prints that make up the suite. We offer an estate collection 13 Dante lithographs, each signed and marked EA, and authenticated by Fields in 1987. The collection consists of Inferno, Charon, Approach to Lower Hell, Monto, The Black Angel, Paradise, Beatrice Resolves the Doubts of Dante, The Troubadour Bishop, The Immoderate Beauty of Beatrice, Pergatory, The Negligent, The Reproach of Virgil, The Smoke of the Wrathful, The Siren of Dreams, Prodigality, and Gluttony. The gold leaf frames measure 21 and one half by 24 inches. The prints each measure 9 and one half by twelve inches. Two prints are mounted in frames slightly different than the other 11.
